Postoperative Respiratory Dysfunction in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease

This case report presents a 67-year-old female with Parkinson’s disease who underwent deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrode replacement surgery. Following extubation, the patient developed persistent laryngospasm, requiring immediate intervention. Suspecting symptoms similar to levodopa withdrawal, received intravenous propofol and enteral supplementation, leading symptom improvement. The underscores importance of perioperative management, including timely medication supplementation DBS functioning, in patients prevent neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)-like complications. Anesthesiologists should be vigilant about potential airway issues NMS this population maintain optimal fluid status during Prompt intervention can irreversible damage improve outcomes.
